Bio

KWAMKWAMGALIS Jason Taylor is a Kwakwaka’wakw artist born in Victoria B.C. in 1984, he descends from the Namgis, Tlowitsis and Mamtagila tribes of Northern Vancouver Island. Currently he works out of North Vancouver B.C. living in the territory of the Squamish Nation.

Since the time he was born Jason has been deeply involved in his Kwakwaka’wakw culture, learning the songs, dances, legends, rights and privileges of his family. This immersion into his culture led him to travel all over the world sharing it with people from all walks of life through his involvement in various traditional performing groups.

Jason began drawing and designing at a young age inspired by books of Kwakwaka’wakw artworks and artists around him including his late Uncle John Nelson and Godfather Richard Hunt. Jason currently specializes in traditional design work with a contemporary twist adding hand painted original designs to canvas, drums, hats, shoes, wallets, purses, belts and anything else that inspires him.
