Bio

My name is Naomi White (nee Hughes), daughter of Robert & Elaine Hughes, Granddaughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ben Hughes and Mr. & Mrs. Barry Helin. I am a proud member of the Tsimshian Nation, Laxkwalaams. I am a Gispudwada (killerwhale) of the Gitxagangiik Tribe. My husband, Ted and I have 5 children; Trista, Cayden, TJ, Mattias and Hope. We have been married for 15 years and counting.

My first intro into weaving was from my Grandmother Verna. As a young child she taught me how to gather and prepare the bark and taught me the basics of weaving. Over the last 6 years I have renewed my interest in weaving with the help and guidance of other weavers. I make cedar roses single stems and arrangements, woven cedar vases, headbands, graduation caps, purses and last but definitely not the least are cedar hats.
