Suzan Kostiuck was born in Dawson Creek, B.C. She began her formal arts training while attending Medicine Hat College’s Visual Communications Program in Alberta, which was followed by a B.F.A. In Visual Arts from the University of Victoria in 2008. She learned beadwork techniques from her birth mother, a member of the Acho Dene Koe in Ft. Liard, N.W.T. Suzan also works with both oil and acrylic mediums and has a passion for black and white photography. Suzan has lived in the western provinces of Canada for most of her life, and currently lives in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. Seeing the variety of landscapes and how people interact with the land has allowed her to develop an appreciation for her cultural and environmental surroundings.
