Authentic Indigenous Arts Agreement

When you register to join Aboriginal Tourism B.C.'s Authentic Indigenous Arts initiative, you are essentially committing to the truth of the information you provide. Unlike many failed programs around the world we are not here to set arbitrary criteria related to identity, materials or methods used in the creation of your work, etc. As artist members of Aboriginal Tourism B.C. we have designed the Authentic Indigenous Arts initiative to set certain guidelines around the protection of our economies and cultures, but to primarily offer a connection between the purchaser of your art and yourself. This connection is the basis of the initiative's functionality.

Along these lines the Definition of Authenticity we will be adopting is:
Conforming to fact and therefore worthy of trust, reliance, or belief.

This being the case, in order for us to ensure the veracity of the information submitted we will be relying on an Artisan Panel (the "Panel"). The Panel will be elected by our member artists and will consist only of artists. The Panel will provide guidance in running the initiative and will also maintain the initiative's legitimacy by providing binding opinion on conflicts brought to our attention.

If there are reports contesting the truthfulness of information submitted to the initiative, those reports will be investigated by the administrator. If there appears to be a basis for the complaint a report will be drafted which will include materials collected through the administrator's investigation. This report will be submitted to the Panel who will review the complaint and determine on a balance of probabilities whether the complaint is valid or not.

If the Panel finds the complaint to be valid the Authentic Indigenous Arts participant will be asked to rectify the subject matter of the complaint. If this is not done, or cannot be done, the participant will forthwith be removed from the website. The Panel also reserves the right to remove from the website any material it deems contrary to the Authentic Indigenous Arts initiative's purpose or has the potential to bring the Authentic Indigenous Arts initiative into disrepute.

When joining the initiative you agree to these terms and conditions and furthermore accept that Aboriginal Tourism B.C. is not liable for any losses (financial or otherwise) that may be incurred as a result of the Authentic Indigenous Arts initiative's function. The Authentic Indigenous Arts initiative was designed with the main purpose of protecting Indigenous economies and culture. We will continue to always act in good faith and we expect our member artisans to do the same for the benefit of all.

* I have read the agreement above and agree to its terms
